Revolutionary Song from Proletarian Dictatorship to Soviet Empire

In conjunction with the University Symphony Orchestra’s concert, Professor Kiril Tomoff, PhD ’01 of the University of California Riverside traces revolutionary song from its role in late Tsarist Russia through its appearance as material for the powerful symphony, The Year of 1917, that Shostakovich wrote fifty years later. The UChicago Women’s Ensemble presents a selection of revolutionary songs as part of the lecture. Presented in partnership with the Smart Museum of Art's "Revolution Every Day" exhibit. Admission is free.
