Historic Chicago Walking Bar Tour for UChicago Alumni
Eat, drink and learn about Chicago's entertainment history with appetizers, beer or wine, and beautiful historic architecture.
Join fellow UChicago Alumni for a historic Chicago pub crawl with an educational twist! You’ll explore Chicago’s entertainment history and learn about prohibition, jazz, theater, vices and social clubs. We'll visit a variety of architecture, including an early speakeasy and jazz club and opulent 1920s lobbies. In addition to the tour guide’s stories, guests interact with historic photos and videos on shared iPads to connect with Chicago’s party past. The Historic Chicago Bar Walking Tour is like a mix of a food/drink tour, an architecture walking tour and a mobile documentary film.
We are offering two dates.
- One is a Saturday afternoon for anyone on February 17.
- The Wednesday, February 21 evening tour we specifically propose as networking for downtown professionals since the tour is very easy to access (right at the Tribune Tower).
This tour is led by Alex Bean, AM'10. The Chicago Detours tour company has been bringing people to explore stories and places locals don't even know since 2010. Amanda Scotese, AM'13, started the company to offer unique tour experiences that integrate architecture, history and culture.
