Big Shoulders Historic Bar and Food by Bus for UChicago Alumni

Connect with Chicago's working class roots in the city’s oldest neighborhood. You’ll visit multiple historic bars, the former Union Stock Yards and taste samples of the neighborhood's unique fare.

Enjoy food and drinks on an educational bus tour of Bridgeport, a historically working class neighborhood. With Chicago Detours you'll explore the area’s history of industry and politics with beer or wine and the good company of fellow alumni. Sites include the Chicago Stock Yards Gate, historic factories, art centers and a quarry-turned-park. You'll visit three historic bars and have the option to try a "mother-in-law" sandwich - a South Side specialty.

This tour is led by Amanda Scotese, AM'13. The Chicago Detours tour company has been bringing people to explore stories and places locals don't even know since 2010. Amanda started the company to offer unique tour experiences that integrate architecture, history and culture.
