It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis.
It Can't Happen Here was published in 1935 during the rise of fascism in Europe. A populist politician named Buzz Windrip (whom many saw as modeled after Huey Long) defeats Franklin Roosevelt in the 1936 presidential election. Windrip promises economic and social reform, and a return to patriotism and traditional values, but becomes a totalitarian dictator. Sales of the book surged after the 2016 presidential election.
