Factories to Calories Fulton Market Walking Food Tour
Discover the dramatic transformation of Chicago's most rapidly changing neighborhood. You'll get a glimpse of Fulton Market's meatpacking past and enjoy a taste of its gourmand present on a private Alumni tour with Alex Bean, AM'10.
This Fulton Market food tour is nicknamed the "Factories to Calories" tour because of the area's shift. Once a place devoted to production of appliances, furniture and meat products, today it's a the hub of Chicago's foodie culture. The walking tour jaunts just over a mile through a neighborhood defined by this change. As recently as the '80s and '90s, Fulton Market was home to underground parties, drug busts, and low-rent art galleries. Today, you will find high-end retailers and headquarters for corporations like Google and McDonald's. Indeed, the tour group discovers the closure of old meatpackers and the construction of new developments nearly every time out.
Your tour will include an artisanal deli meat sample from Publican Quality Meats, a beverage and half-size signature sub at J.P. Graziano and a sample-size glass of beer and pickles at Haymarket Pub & Brewery.
