Hyde Park Book Group June 23 Meeting
Can American Capitalism Survive? by Steven Pearlstein
Please join us at Piccolo Mondo to discuss Can American Capitalism Survive? by Steven Pearlstein (242 pages). Pearlstein notes three ideas that changed American business practices in the eighties, and helped companies become more competitive by the nineties. The ideas were later pushed to extremes that now threaten the future of American capitalism. Pearlstein suggests that a better form of capitalism would allow everyone to have opportunities to get ahead. His proposals to remedy the current inequality of income and opportunity in this country are controversial, but could they work? We will read the book and have a lively discussion, led by Dan.
We will meet at Piccolo Mondo at 1642 E. 56th Street #1 in Chicago. Please notify Gerald Talsky by June 19 if you plan to attend, so that we can reserve the right sized table.
On July 28, 2019 we will be back at our usual location to discuss The Everglades River of Grass by Margery Stoneman Douglas (406 pages) led by Eileen.
