Volunteers Needed: Collegiate Scholars Program
Join fellow service-minded UChicago alumni and become a member of Collegiate Scholars Program’s admissions committee.
The University of Chicago's Collegiate Scholars Program (CSP) of the Office of Civic Engagement is a college access program for high-achieving Chicago public high school students to expose them to the University of Chicago and put them on a path towards attending, and graduating from, highly selective colleges and universities. Over the ten years CSP has been operating, 100% of our students have enrolled in college (compared to Chicago Public Schools, approximately 55%). Additionally, 69% of CSP graduates have matriculated to highly selective colleges and universities, including 10% at the University of Chicago.
CSP is recruiting service-minded UChicago alumni to become a part of their admissions committee. Admissions committee members are an irreplaceable resource, helping them identify young leaders who truly embody the spirit and values of UChicago.
Committee member responsibilities are simple:
• Attend a brief conference call, web-based or in-person admissions training designed to give committee members context to both CSP and our admissions process.
• Read and score completed applications from CPS high school students hoping to become CSP scholars—the number of applications is assigned to each reader is based on each reader’s individual availability (every little bit helps!).
• Conduct in-person interviews with the most qualified applicants as schedule and geography allows.
The trainings will take place in January, reading cycles will start in mid-February and interviews take place in mid-April 2014.
